Broomsedge Prospective Members FAQ

  • Broadly speaking, the best private clubs in the UK and Ireland are more accessible to non-members than the best clubs in the US. Revered places like Muirfield, Royal Dornoch, Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, and countless others allow visitors to play on selected days and/or at selected times. Recently, The Lido in Wisconsin has incorporated similar characteristics into their model. We not only love the spirit of these clubs, but they also tend to enjoy greater financial stability while members enjoy reasonable and stable dues.

To fulfill our vision, Broomsedge will allow limited access to non-members throughout the year, though heavily restricted during peak months (March-May / Sept-Nov). Outside play can be delivered in a variety of ways, including unaccompanied guest play (member sponsored),a limited day pass lottery, written requests to the club, etc. By allowing for a limited amount of non members access at a premium price we can keep membership small, dues affordable, and the club healthy.

Members will always have priority to reserve tee times and lodging.

  • Surprisingly, yes. Broomsedge is rural, but only 5 minutes off Interstate-20. The club is roughly 35 minutes east of the South Carolina state capitol of Columbia, the University of South Carolina, and the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. It sits roughly 40 minutes away from the crossroads of the southeast – the intersection of I-95 and I-20. Camden is the nearest town and has an easily accessible private airport called Woodward Field, just 15 minutes away. Sumter is 30 minutes away and Florence is 40 minutes away. Broomsedge is also within driving distance of major business, financial, and leisure hubs like Charlotte, Charleston, Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, and Pinehurst.

  • While the club will encourage walking, golf carts will also be available at Broomsedge. We plan to eventually build a strong caddy program, though the use of a caddy is not required for members. Push carts will always be available as well.

  • Tasteful, classical, and modest, guided by the land/course aesthetic. We anticipate that national members will stay in the cottages when visiting Broomsedge, but it will not be a requirement that members stay on-site.

  • Our initial clubhouse buildout includes a dining area that is capable of serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
